I love this song. Chrissy Amphlett seems a bit spaced here, but it was 1984. I have no explanation for her dress, however.
I am still convinced Divinyls is one of the great unsung bands of the late 80s/early 90s. I bought a compilation of their stuff in college on a whim, and it was great stuff.

It's like every female artist I've loved has decided to put an album out this year.

Watershed, k.d. lang's first album of original music in 8 years, came out yesterday. I must pick it up. I love her voice, but I hate the fact that she's only done cover albums for the last near-decade.

Aimee Mann has a new one coming out in April or May called "Smilers". You can find a video for "31 today" on youtube.

Carly Simon will also put out her first album of original material since the Bedroom Tapes in May.

Finally, Shirley Manson's solo album should be out in late May.

I'm such a geek. I'm so excited about all this new music.

    Martha Plimpton is win!
Edit: Actually, I see that she did in fact add me back. I take the whole post back!

So like 2 weeks ago I sent a friends request on myspace to Martha Plimpton.

    I think I've been rejected.

    Boo.

    Martha does not want!

I'm glad she lost the Tony!*

*okay, I still wish she'd won.

I am totally tickled that Martha Plimpton has been nominated for a Tony (featured actress in a play for "Coast of Utopia).  You may remember Ms. Plimpton from 200 Cigarettes, Parenthood, or Pecker, but probably from The Goonies.  Either way, I think she's freakin hilarious and I think the world needs a lot more Martha Plimpton.  Hopefully the nom will giver her career a little boost.  She was nommed for an Emmy a few years ago for an eppy of Law & Order, which b and I saw on tv a few months ago. She can do drama too!

I really hope she wins on Tony night.

And no, this post was not a joke. Just really, really dorky.

I am really ashamed to be from Shelby county.
Prayer has been part of the graduation ceremony at Shelby County High School for quite some time. Nevermind that is is unconstitutional to have it as part of the ceremony.
I'll admit when I was in high school, I wasn't really with it. I didn't really go to church anymore or have much use for religion but for some reason I didn't think anything of having a prayer at my graduation. I mean, it was annoying and I rolled my eyes, much like when three of my classmates sang "it's so hard to say goodbye." Give me a break. But I apologize for not realizing how wrong and unfair prayer in public school is. What about people who aren't christian? What about people who practice a different religion? What about people who are agonstic or atheist? And what about Christians who actually respect other religions or don't want to listen to a prayer themselves?

I'm not very close to the Saiyed family, but I went to school with Soha, Arshiya's older sister. She's Muslim. So what? Big deal. I don't object to her religion. She's intelligent and well spoken and I wish more people were like her. I don't understand why people care what religion someone is. It really hurts me to see people completely berate people whose religion they clearly don't understand. My mom got an email SENT TO ALL OF THE SCHOOL FACULTY saying that Saiyed "bows to a pagan moon god and is an enemy to Jesus Christ" and blah blah blah. Whining about a "false satanic god' and blah blah blah. I can't believe people think their Christianity trumps everyone and everything else, including the fucking law.

The biggest annoyance is that people don't seem to understand the issue. I don't care if most of the people at graduation are Christian. That's fine. The point is it's TOTALLY UNFAIR to the other students to have to sit through a prayer. AND ILLEGAL.

I rememeber a girl on the news the other night saying something like "We have as much right to a prayer at graduation as she does to object to it".

    No, you don't.

People don't seem to understand that the law is the law.

Silent Hill was interesting. Not good, because it was too confusing and badly scripted, but I still liked enough of it to recommend it for like a rental or maybe a matinee.
The nightmarish stuff was really well done, and I liked the sexy nurses.
But the dialogue was terrible. We're taking back your Oscar, Roger Avary.
And getting all the story out in the last half-hour wasn't a good idea either.
Ah well, it was better than Super Mario Bros.

I was in a little car accident yesterday.
It was about 3:30 in the afternoon, and I was leaving work.
I was merging onto 2-64 West, when for some reason, I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. So I both braked and tried to get back in my lane.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure what happened, but this sounds about right. Anyway, I skidded and spun a bit and lightly smashed into the concrete wall that serves as a barrier between the road and a big drop off into a ravine.
I was pretty shaken, but I was otherwise fine. I didn't hit anyone else as I careened across the lane, and the car itself didn't take much damage. It was just embarrassing and scary and all that. I called my mom and told her what happened, and then called branden and let him know what was happening. Mom came and met me and I drove the car home. So really, it was a small accident, but I'm lucky no one else was involved.
    Whoo.

    Somewhere that's green
I just saw the funniest episode of "Family Guy" EVER.
I wouldn't care if I never laugh again.

    OH. MY....GOD..I was hyperventilating.
The pervy old man singing "Somewhere that's green" from Little Shop.

I never update this thing anymore. lordy.

Santa Clause is parking his ass right outside my store this year. Which of course means that tons of kids and parents will be outside screaming and yelling and carrying on. I can't wait. At least the christmas trees look nice, and it should be a pick up in business for the store.

I might have to get the new Madonna album, because it's apparently really good. I'm a quasi-Madonna fan I suppose. Her 80's stuff was fun, but the first Madonna album I bought was Ray of Light, which is still a great album. I didn't buying the last one, though. I streamed it on mtv.com and it was pretty blah. I'll give her another chance.

"Walk the Line' opens Friday, and B and I are totally going sometime after I get off work. Hopefully won't be too late. I am quite excited for some reason, and I've never been big on Johnny Cash. w00t.
It's about time some decent movies came out. Why do we always have to wait till November? Damn oscars.

Spent the weekend with Brando, as per our usual arrangment. Here are some notes from the weekend:

-Halloween III: Season of The Witch was quite bad. I knew that the plot had nothing to do with Michael Meyers and was fine with that. It was still awful. And gory, and not in a cool way. though I was mildly afraid that I'd have nightmares about bugs crawling out of branden's face.

+ Prime was quite good. Meryl Streep was fucking hilarious. And of course I lurve the Uma.

-The Bourbonball milkshake at Lynn's Paradise Cafe was like bourbon with a tiny bit of ice cream and a dab of chocolate. If I'd been looking to get drunk, it would've been great. As a milkshake, it didn't quite work. WAY too much bourbon. I thought I might become "teh durnk."

+Dinner with Tab and Bill was a nice unexpected happening. We ran into them at Wal*Mart and decided to get some dinner. The chicken pepper whatever I got at Applebee's was pretty tasty.

+Carrie is rather unintentionally hilarious. It's a decent film, but it has dated really poorly.

+My boyfriend is the best boyfriend ever because he got me kd lang's Hymns of the 49th parallel. It's a cover album, but it had some really good stuff on it. We listened to a bit of it in the car and it's beautiful. She has a voice like velvet.

A pretty uneventful, but still really great weekend. It's nice to just be able to enjoy life.

    Emmy shockers:

Felicity Huffman winning Best Actress in a Comedy, beating Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross.

PATRICIA ARQUETTE beating Glenn Close and Mariska Hartigay for Best Actress in a Drama. I'm personally thrilled, because I love her on "Medium', but I'm sure some people are pissed.
Watching her win with my boyfriend was even better, because it was a total surprise and we both looked at each other and yelped. Well, he yelped. I screamed. I'm gonna make a Patty Arquette icon.
